Miels Farrier Service
Honest shoeing from someone who has ridden them.
About
Farrier work across Mildura and surrounds — racehorses, harness horses, pleasure and working horses.

Three generations at the anvil
My great-grandfather, William James Miels, was a blacksmith. He opened his first shop at Nairne in the Adelaide Hills and later moved it to Woodville in Adelaide. The Chronicle photographed him at the anvil in 1935, aged 74.
His son William Henry, my grandfather and Harry to everyone who knew him, learnt the trade from him and passed it on to me. My uncle Frank Williams, a fine horseman in his younger years, did as much as anyone to steer me down the same path.
The family's ties to horses reach beyond the forge, too. Lieutenant Colonel Albert Miell, born at Auburn, South Australia in 1869, served in the Boer War and commanded the 9th Light Horse Regiment until he was killed at Walker's Ridge, Gallipoli, on 7 August 1915.
The forge is long gone, but the trade carries on — every horse I shoe gets the work the way it was handed down to me.
